阿伯丁市介绍

阿伯丁市是一座风景秀丽，治安稳定的城市，现有人口25万。她濒临苏格兰的东海岸，是欧洲的石油之都。这座城市临近英国一些最迷人的乡村，空气清新，交通便利，起飞于阿伯丁国际机场的频繁的飞机飞往伦敦（只一小时多一点）和欧洲的其他许多城市。

大学简介

阿伯丁大学位于风景优美的苏格兰东岸，成立于1495年，500多年历史，是英国最古老的六所大学之一，是英国仅次于牛津、剑桥及伦敦大学之后的第四古老大学。学校位于英国东北海滨城市Aberdeen的市中心，校内国王学院有一座俯瞰海景的15世纪的教堂塔楼，整个校园古典而肃穆，处处洋溢着古典名校的气息。学生总人数为11058人，包括9374名本科生。该校曾有四位研究员获得诺贝尔奖，包括胰岛素的发明者。一万一千多名学生，其中16%是研究生，14%来自世界一百三十多个国家和地区。现任校长Wilson阁下是1987-1992年的香港总督。大学有43个系，4所学院：科学与工程学院、药学与医学院、社会科学与法律学院、文科与神学院。全部43个系及研究中心均有硕士和博士课程。

阿伯丁大学在一年一度的《英国泰晤士报》（TIMES）全英数百所大学排名中，名列第19位。是英国最好的20所大学之一。2003年TIMES专业排名：ABERDEEN的法律排名第14位；商业管理排名20位；医学，第6位。大学的土地经济、法律、金融、商管、计算机工程、医学、环境/生物科学等专业具有较强的权威性。本科生课程选择自由度大，大学提供300多门课程，可以学习三年制普通学位或者四年制荣誉学位。大学十分注重研究生的培训及研究，共设有70多种一年制讲授式硕士学位，全部43个学系及研究院中心均设有硕士及博士研究课程。阿伯丁大学的管理和法律，尤其受中国学生的欢迎。

学校特色

杰出的教学质量。在2000年度的泰晤士报英国大学综合排名中阿伯丁大学名列26位。生物科学是该校最强的学科，在最近一次的教学质量评估中得到“优”等（医学及法语也是“优”等）。其他强项还有环境科学、社会科学、法律，MBA及金融投资等领域。该校在这些科目上都获得研究评估最高分。许多国际学生在该校就读工程、管理、政治及国际关系学。阿伯丁大学为一流研究性大学，在1996年的研究评估中，本校92%的教师获评为积极研究，这个比例是全英国第7名。

Introduction to the University of Aberdeen

Aberdeen University is one of the oldest universities in the UK. Petitioning the Pope to be allowed to found the university, James IV of Scotland described the locals as "men who are rude, ignorant of letters and almost barbarous". But things have improved since then.

Today, Aberdeen is known as the oil capital of Scotland, but the university is not all about commerce.

Courses that enjoy a good reputation at Aberdeen are a mixture of the modern and the ancient. They include bioscience, pharmacology, sociology, law, history and general engineering. Aberdeen prides itself on the balance it strikes between science and the humanities. Students enrol for broad degrees and may try out two or three subjects before making a decision after the first or second year. The majority change their degree subject before graduation.

Aberdeen's alumni include James Naughtie and Nicky Campbell. Alistair Darling, the social security secretary, also studied here.

Aberdeen itself has much to offer. For outdoor types, the Cairngorms and North Sea are on the doorstep. For those who enjoy nothing more than raising their right hands, the students' union and the town itself offer great opportunities for drinking and dancing.
